The Crisis in Syria: Where is the Conflict Heading? A Panel Debate

Almost 30.000 killed; a humanitarian catastophe; a regime that is gradually mutating into a horrifici militia; a paralyzed international community; an opposition who, despite launching a struggle against repression and tyranny, is threatened by its own radicalization; an arena for the battle of regional hegemony. What are the domestic, regional, and global dynamics and scenarios for the conflict in Syria today?

On the panel:

Ingmar Karlsson is a former Swedish Ambassador to Syria. Karlsson has published a number of books on issues relating to the Middle East and is currently a Senior Fellow at the Centre for Middle Eastern Studies in Lund.

Bitte Hammargren is an award-winning foreign correspondent at Svenska Dagbladet reporting on the Middle East.

Per Jönsson is a former foreign correspondent at Dagens Nyheter and is currently an associate at the the Swedish Institute of International Affairs where he specializes on international relations of the Middle East.

Joshka Wessels is a Post-Doctoral researcher at Peace and Conflict Studies Department of Political Science in Lund and has conducted extensive field research in Syria.
